Cape Maleas & Elafonisos

Cape Maleas & Elafonisos

Before this we enjoyed waves in Leonidio and lived through incredible moments in archaeological beauties of Monemavasia.

Me and my son enjoying waves in Leonidio, Greece

Our journey continued to Cape Maleas. High winds raised sea and waves.

Here, Odysseus encountered the moody and tumultuous weather of Cape Maleas on his way home to Ithaca when he rounded the Cape and was blown off course to the Land of the Lotus Eaters. He endured nearly ten more years of adventures before he found his way home to his wife Penelope.

We kept our course to the sunset…

Crossing from Aegean to Ionian sea

Elafonisos

The area features exotic beauty: dunes, cedar trees, white lilies, black rocks, rare species of animals and birds that live here, blue waters and bright white sand.
It has clear green-blue waters, giving the impression that you are in an exotic paradise.

Cristal clear waters of Elafonisi lagoon

Elafonisi is a magical place that consists of a small islet full of white and pink sandy beaches.
the island is home to 110 plant species as well as being a protected area for Androcymbium rechingeri, which is as rare as it sounds.

Ierakas Village

Even though our fishing capabilities gave us lunch in previous days, this time we had to search for a dinner in near by tavern.
Departing Gerakas we were still under impression of story we read in restaurants menu.

Ierakas Village in Greece

The Ierakas story:
“Father and son were sailing in boat for their next catch. While they were fishing father got tired and laid down. The son took over steering. Soon enough storm came. The son didn’t want to wake father so he pointed the ship towards the place he thought might be protected. In meantime, lightning stroke and broke down mast. Father waked. He saw his son steering towards rocks. The father got panicked and tried to take over steering. The son started convincing him that they are going to hidden cove which will protect them from storm. In this chaotic situation, the father thought that son is going mad, so he pulled his knife and killed him. Boat continued in given direction , anyway. When it came there, the father saw beautiful, green leafed cove and wind protected area”…….

This story left unspeakable impression on all of us…we still cant think of any good reason why someone placed it in restaurants menu….

We visited few more nice coves before finishing our adventure and getting back to Nafplion
